Dear Editor,
[Re: History of transit parked in 91Ô´´, 91Ô´´ Advance Times, Jan. 11]
Thanks for the excellent article on bus history parked in 91Ô´´.
It brought back a treasured childhood memory of the bus when my sister and I were growing up in Richmond.
At ages eight and 10 we used to ride the old BC Electric BRILL model buses on the #2-5 route.
In those days, the ’60s, there were only two bus routes in all of Richmond. Both left Marpole in south Vancouver while one went up #2 Road, along Steveston Highway and down #5 Road and the other up #3 Road and down #4. Compared to today… wow!
But what I remember the most was the old bus driver, Jim, who would stop the bus and get off with us and stop all traffic both ways on busy #2 Road until we were safely across the road. Service like that nowadays… I’m afraid not…
Love these articles that speak to our history. Thanks.
