Letter: Comments on Kwantlen pipeline protest are predictable and ill-informed

Editor: I am writing in response to the nonsense and misinformation your readers write in your online comment sections regarding indigenous issues. These writers use the same devices in their arguments all the time.

Statements like, 鈥淭he First Nations people should just get over it and be like everyone else in this country!鈥

Or they write things like, 鈥淚f they don鈥檛 like the way things are then they can just go back to the Stone Age where we found them.鈥

Or, 鈥淲ell then, they should stop freeloading off of us taxpayers.鈥

Even though none of these statements are actually based in any fact or reality, and are based purely on ignorance and over inflated egoism.

The First Nations people are not spending your tax dollars.

It is money we earned through our own economic development and growth and is overseen by an intrusive and patriarchal governing body called the Indian Act.

It is merely overseen and administered through federal hands and redistributed back to First Nations and it is a system that benefits everyday Canadians because this Indian Act also allows you to build and prosper on these lands. You鈥檙e welcome.

To these writers I implore you to fact check and go to your local elementary school or high school and speak to the school children there and find out more about the history, misinformation, and racist ideologies your statements are imbued with, and let them tell you how stupid you all sound.

They know better than you do and I am thankful that these bright young minds will know better than these people will ever know.

If First Nations people need to go back to the Stone Age, then you can come with us, and when you come you can have a look around for your primitive viewpoints and bury them there where they belong.

Brandon Gabriel Kwelexwelsten,

Kwantlen First Nation
