Editor: It is true that Susan Hitchman quotes the title of the position statement published by the American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) when she says 鈥淪OGI ideology harms children.鈥� (鈥楽peaker was citing research, not offering personal opinion鈥�, the Times, June 7)

Perhaps other parts of the ACPeds鈥� position statement will help your readers understand the college Ms. Hitchman says is so 鈥渉ighly respected.鈥�

ACPeds holds that, 鈥淢any youth with homosexual attractions have experienced a troubled upbringing, including sexual abuse鈥︹�� It believes that, 鈥淭he homosexual lifestyle carries grave health risks.鈥�

Finally, 鈥淥f particular importance to the founders [of ACPeds was] 鈥� the importance of the fundamental mother-father family (female-male) unit in the rearing of children.鈥�

The American College of Pediatricians is not a reliable source of information about sexual orientation or gender identity.
