Last visit to spouse was a spiritual farewell

Sometimes as we are dying, the spirit leaves the body to say farewell to those it loves.

Editor: A neighbour of mine trudged painfully up and down our street to catch a bus to the facility that takes care of her husband. She is in her mid-70s as was her husband, who had suffered with Parkinson鈥檚 disease for years. Occasionally, if I saw her in the bus shelter, I鈥檇 take her there.

Our conversations usually centred upon his condition, which varied from fair to poor. Suffering from an arthritic condition, her visitation trips were difficult but, despite the weather, she made them on a daily basis.

On Wednesday,  she saw me pull into the garage and soon after rang our doorbell. She鈥檇 come to tell us that her husband had passed away, which explains why we haven鈥檛 seen her lately. She then told us a strange tale. She鈥檇 had a dream the night prior to his death.

He鈥檇 visited her in love and passion, telling her how much he loved her and how much she meant to him. She awoke, amazed that such a dream had occurred. Very early the next morning, the nurse at the facility phoned to tell her husband had died in the early hours of the morning.

My cancer specialist, who recently told me about eight of his patients who had been resuscitated from death by medical science, may have an explanation. He believes the soul continues its journey into eternity. Sometimes as we are dying, the spirit leaves the body to say farewell to those it loves. In this case, his beloved wife was aware of this spiritual visitation.
