In loving memory ~

With sorrow, we announce the passing of our fabulous mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, cousin and friend, PJ Birch. With family by her side, PJ, 77, passed away peacefully on August 12th, 2024 at 91原创 Lodge.

She is survived by her children and their families - daughter Kim Houlind, husband Wayne and sons Maguire and Sawyer; and son Ted Gross, wife Jodie and daughters Sadie and Molly. She is survived by her siblings, Linda, Nancy, Alana (Ray) and David (Denise), many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

PJ grew up in Surrey where she attended Queen Elizabeth High School. After graduation, she received her diploma in Psychiatric Nursing and later her diploma in Long Term Care Facility Management. Her education put her on the path to a long and fulfilling career in nursing and community work.

A pioneer in her field, PJ opened one of the first residential homes for older adults with mental illness in 1971. She operated Crescent Lodge until 1987, all while raising her children. She also held several Board roles with local community organizations supporting people with mental health challenges and people with intellectual disabilities.

In 2001, PJ joined the Fraser Health Authority's Car 67 and RCMP program as a Nurse Clinician. She remained in this role until her retirement in 2012. PJ loved this job, and she loved her colleagues even more.

PJ had a very fulfilling personal life. She preferred the finer things; a well-aged bottle of Old Vines Foch, a decadent meal, rich conversation, and extensive travel. PJ loved to cook, and would often host friends, family and colleagues for elaborate meals. She loved engaging in conversation about politics and world events, and always took a keen interest in the success of others.

Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 13 years ago, PJ's mind remained sharp and her spirit stayed positive through to the end.

She will be remembered as nothing short of fabulous!
