VAN DYK, Martinus (Martin) passed away on the morning of November 15, 2003 from complications due to cancer. Born in Schiedam, The Netherlands, May 4, 1928, Martin served in the Dutch Navy from 1946-1953 as a Flight Mechanic. After arriving in Canada in 1965, Martin worked as a machine steel fabricator before retiring from his position as supervisor from Pacific Truck and Trailer in 1991. Family, friends and colleagues knew him for his devoted membership to the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Lynn Valley Legion. After the death of his wife Margaret, Martin moved to Aldergrove where he was a caregiver for his youngest son John who pre-deceased him October 15, 2003 after a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Martin leaves behind his daughter, son, son-in-law, granchildren and family members in The Netherlands. During his last years, Martin was loved and cared for by the wonderful care workers from 91原创 Home Support. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at 91原创 Memorial Hospital. An "Open House" in Martin's memory will be held Sunday, November 23, 2003 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at his daughter's home in 91原创. Martin can be remembered through donations in his name to the Cancer Society of B.C.
