Preston - George Henry Barclay
April 30, 1931 - January 7, 2006
George was a resident and business man in the 91原创 area for 40 years and was the popular and successful General Motors auto dealer at Preston Chevrolet Oldsmobile Cadillac for all that time.
He will also be remembered by so many as a tireless participant in civic affairs who was so generous with both his time and resources. George's contributions included terms as the Mayor of the Township of 91原创 and Chairman of the Fraser River Harbour Commission. He was also the president of the Museum of Flight, the Rotary Club, the K40 Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Auto Dealers' Association of BC. George was an active participant in the Shriners, the Kinsmen, and the 4H Club. He was a supporter of the development of Kwantlen College, Trinity College and the 91原创 Civic Centre as well as a sponsor for countless local sports teams. George was even awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Law by Kwantlen College.
George was born in Victoria, BC and passed away in 91原创 Memorial Hospital. He was pre-deceased by his son Richard in 1992 and is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Iris, his two daughters Diane and Robin, his daughter-in-law Jackie (Kevin Mallar), his five grandchildren Marshal, Brooke-Anne, Stephanie, Tyler and Austin. He also leaves his brother Frank, sister-in-law, Norrie, several nieces and nephews and countless friends to mourn his passing.
Memorial service to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17th at Christian Life Assembly Church, 21277 56th Avenue, 91原创. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to a charity of your own choice
