Elvira Agnes Sundstrom, nee Peterson, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2020 soon after arriving at 91原创 Memorial Hospital.
Elvira was predeceased by her husband Al, son Larry, sister's Esther (Eric Kvist), Frances (Ingvar Engvik), brother's Ralph Peterson (Gladys) and LeRoy (Elaine and Norma). She is survived by sons Verne (Judi), Wayne (Laura) and Daryl (Joan). She is also survived by grand daughters, Jennifer (Brian Dales), Kerri (Rob Leetz), Lindsay; grandsons Chris, Erik (Anne), Brad (Kyley), Toryn (Dani Tate-Straton). She is also survived by great grand children Beau, William, Sunni, Liam, Joshua, Mattias and Markus as well as many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, loving keeping in touch with them all.
Elvira (mom) was born in South Vancouver, but shortly after moved to the family farm in south 91原创 where they were one of the pioneer families in the area. Along with her brothers and sisters they survived the great depression at the developing farm while her dad worked as a stone mason in Vancouver. Elvira spent about 25 years at the family home and then moved to a new home on 200th street with husband Al where they raised four boys on a small acreage. The family farm and new property were later expropriated and now form a portion of the Campbell River Regional Park. The next move was to 48th Avenue and then to a condominium in 91原创, after the passing of husband Al, where she resided on her own up until her passing.
Mom was active in the community volunteering with many groups from the Fernridge community hall to scoring baseball games. She continued her volunteer efforts with the local Penny Pincher, where she was treasurer for many years. She spent many hours knitting blankets, newborn sweaters, booties and mittens for the gift shop at 91原创 Memorial Hospital.
Mom enjoyed travel and took bus trips across the US and parts of Canada. One of her favourite trips was to Minot, North Dakota with her brother LeRoy for the annual Norwegian festival. She would also make the annual trip to Seattle to see her Toronto Blue Jays play Seattle. She has watched nearly all the Blue Jays games for the past two decades hoping that this would be the year they would come through to the World Series. She will still be watching and hoping. Recent years have kept her closer to home, taking in numerous local concerts and events.
A family graveside get together will be held at the 91原创 Lawn Cemetery, 4393 - 208th Street. An afternoon tea will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
