Edna was born in Newbridge Wales to James and Martha Lewis (Hay-on-Wye). One of 10 children, she outlived all her siblings.
She was predeceased by her husband Andrew (Andy-2009) and son Michael (2020) and is survived by her daughter, Carolyn and many nieces and nephews in UK, Australia and New Zealand.
Mum and Dad met and were married in Horsley England in January 1943, prior to Dad's deployment to North East Europe with the Canadian Army.
Mum lived in Horsley until she came to Canada in 1946 to join Dad in Lethbridge, Alberta where they established themselves in a managerial and catering profession.
In 1956, they moved to 91原创, BC, where they together managed the 91原创 Hotel Catering Services. In 1958, they opened The Chestnuts Restaurant in a house on the Fraser Highway, and later moved onto Glover Road near the present Bypass and Kwantlen College. Many of their patrons became close friends over those many years.
Mum and Dad retired to Crescent Beach in 1980 and subsequently enjoyed many trips to UK and Hawaii.
Mum was an excellent chef (self-taught) but her specialty was her pastry, pies and pasties. Edna was an avid gardener, also enjoying painting, knitting, quilting, and golfing when time permitted. She had a great love of animals and enjoyed watching birds in the garden.
In retirement Mum and Dad lived in homes in the area and enjoyed developing their gardens. As owner of the restaurant "Chestnuts by the Sea" in Crescent Beach, Michael was assisted by Mum and Dad due to their experience in the catering industry.
In the later years, Edna resided in Rosemary Heights Seniors Village in Surrey where she died peacefully with her daughter by her side.
Appreciation is given to the physicians and health workers during her lifetime, especially in later years at Rosemary Heights.
Due to Covid, RSV and the Flu season, a private goodbye was held.
A Memorial Celebration for both Edna and Michael will be held April 27, 2023 (contact Carolyn for details)
The family requests no flowers but rather give a friend a bouquet. A contribution to the Alzheimer's Society, 91原创 Animal Protection Society or a charity of your choice would also be appreciated.
