Derek DOUBLEDAY

DOUBLEDAY, Derek John: Born June 13, 1923 died October 26, 2003. Grew up in Bottesford, England. Attended King's School in Grantham. Served as a navigator in the R.A.F. during WWII. Emigrated to Canada after the war. Upon arriving in 91原创, B.C. he served the Township of 91原创 for 35 years, first as Municipal Clerk, later as Administrator. After his retirement, he was made a Freeman of the Township. He also served on the Labour Relations Board for five years. He was a Civil Marriage Commissioner for forty-nine years. He was a memeber of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries for many years, until his death. Derek was a volunteer worker for various local organizations. He worked tirelessly for the United Church of Canada at Clayton, Knox United and St. Andrew's Wesley. He enjoyed ballroom, sqare and round dancing and badminton.


Derek is survived by his loving wife, Gloria, his son, David, daughter-in-law, Tanya, grandchildren, Matthew and Courtney, sister-in-law Joy, and siblings, Colin, Marion, Nancy and Kathleen, their spouses and many nieces and nephews. Derek was much loved, and much respected and will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home at 14660-72nd Ave., Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated in Derek's memory.
