July 12, 1947 - June 16, 2024

In loving memory ~

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Arlene Muriel Wiebe (nee Porterfield) on June 16, 2024.

Arlene was born on July 12, 1947, attended school in Surrey, took teacher training at UBC, and taught at Fraser Lake for one year, then many more in 91原创. She is survived by her husband Wayne, children Michael and Alison, granddaughters Katrina and Annika Wiebe, and sister Denise Prozny, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Arnold and Muriel Porterfield.

Arlene and Wayne married in 1967 and after one year "up north" settled in 91原创 to live, teach, and raise a family. Arlene was well-liked and respected by her colleagues and friends, and many students can bear witness to her care and skills as a teacher, She really enjoyed teaching young children how to read. She was forced to leave teaching earlier than planned due to her Parkinson's disease, but she and Wayne continued to travel, seeing and enjoying so many parts of our world and meeting new friends along the way. Thousands of photographs attest to the life she lived and the happiness she brought to others.

For years Arlene enjoyed gardening and caring for flowers, and loved to have a fresh bouquet on display. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, and many pool parties and barbecue meals were enjoyed at the Wiebe residence in Willoughby. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother and we have many happy memories of times spent together.

A celebration of Arlene's life will be held at Newlands on August 2nd, beginning at eleven o'clock.
