April 25, 1972 - August 3, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Angie Arlette Zeeben announces her passing.

Angie was a sister, mother, daughter, grandmother. She is remembered as an aesthete. A kind and gentle human who loved her family, cherished animals and perceived the world in ways few others can. She was a brilliant painter and illustrator with a natural talent that astonished the select few who had the privilege of seeing her deeply personal work.

Born in Ottawa, Ontario, on April 25, 1972, Angie's creativity was evident at an early age. She had a genius for fashion. Celebrating the beauty of clothing was always an important part of her life. Angie was the centre of the universe to her mom and dad, Arlette and Bill, and will always be the little sister to her brothers, Bill and Jim.

A devoted animal lover, Angie made the decision to become a vegetarian as an adolescent and created a loving home for many small creatures — she avoided calling them pets. She cared for hamsters, cats and dogs throughout her life. In her final days, she was comforted by, and provided comfort to, her companion dog of 16 years, Rainbow, who passed a few days after her "mamma." There is comfort in knowing Angie and Rainbow are now together forever.

Angie's academic career was devoted to learning about the human condition. She earned a degree in Psychology at the University of the Fraser Valley, and her education enhanced her kindness and compassion for others. Professionally, Angie worked as a teacher beloved by ESL classes in private colleges and special needs students in the public school system. Angie's advocacy for children with autism helped parents see their own children in a new light, and earned her the admiration of her peers.

Angie died on August 3, 2024, finding peace after many years of struggling with health issues beyond her control. We are heartbroken that she is gone but grateful for the resilience Angie helped us learn and the lifetime of beautiful memories that she left for us to keep.

Angie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Adell and Mateo; grandson Augustine; mother Arlette; eldest brother Bill; older brother and his wife, Jim and Jennifer; niece and nephew Carter and Maliya; aunts Yvonne and Esther and uncle Ernesto; cousins Ray, Mauricio, Andres, Alex, Jorge and many others she considered her friends and family. Angie is predeceased by her loving father William.

A celebration of life for family and close friends is being planned to remember Angie.

In lieu of flowers, we suggest considering a donation to pawsforhope.org, or another animal welfare agency in your area.
