A cat burglar who broke into people鈥檚 Walnut Grove homes while they slept has been given a two-year conditional sentence.
Greyszen Beszedes, 21, was in Surrey Provincial Court on Friday, July 14 facing sentencing for three counts of break and enter with intent to commit an offense, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of mischief in connection to the cat burglaries that took place in October 2014.
A judge also ordered a 10-year weapons ban.
Beszedes was 19 when he committed the crimes. The break-ins took place between Oct. 2 and 21, 2014, all in in the Walnut Grove area. The burglaries occurred overnight when the homeowners were in bed, sleeping. For the most part, there was no forced entry; the homes had been left unsecured, either by an open window or unlocked door, said police. Items taken were generally small in nature 鈥� wallets, cellphones, iPads, laptops, chequebooks and video games.
Beszedes was caught when a resident observed him breaking into a car parked on a nearby street. That person awoke due to the sound and was able to restrain Beszedes until police arrived.
. They believed he had skipped town and was in Ontario.
The court ordered another bench warrant for him to attend court in August and again in September 2016.
He is also accused of breaching his conditions last year and again in Burnaby on July 10. He was arrested that day and released on $500 bail on July 10.
