RCMP officers took down a suspect in 91原创 City, with at least five police vehicles and eight officers called to the scene Sunday afternoon, Jan. 22.

It happened around 2 p.m. in a back lane off 203rd Street near 56th Avenue.

Police said they were responding to reports of a man with a machete 鈥減unching鈥� vehicles in the area and causing a disturbance.

Officers could be seen with guns drawn before a man was arrested at the back of a business.

RCMP Sgt. Kirby Adams told the 91原创 Advance Times the suspect, a man in his 30s, who was 鈥渨ell-known to us鈥� was 鈥渃onfrontational鈥� with officers.

Officers searched the area and located the machete with the assistance of a police dog, Adams said.

Surrey Provincial Court records show a Lance Flegel appeared before a judge on Monday, Jan. 23, on a charge of possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection with the Sunday incident.

He was also charged with mischief and breach of a probation order.

Flegel, who was listed as in custody, will return to court on Feb. 13.
