It’s been a “very quiet year,” so far, for violent crime in 91ԭ, according to the latest report from local Mounties.
91ԭ RCMP Supt. Adrian Marsden, the officer in charge of the detachment, made the comment while presenting a quarterly report on crime in the Township and City.
“It’s actually been a very quiet year,” Marsden remarked during a 91ԭ Township council meeting at the end of June.
“We actually haven’t had a homicide here since October of 2022. It’s actually been surprisingly quiet that way.”
One attempted homicide was mentioned in the stats, for a shooting where the “person didn’t pass away.”
Other incidents reported during the three-month stretch included a brawl between local and out-of-town gangsters.
“A group of gang members, that actually were visiting from England, got into a bit of an altercation in 91ԭ with some gang members here,” Marsden told council.
It “resulted in a big mess of a stabbing” that required substantial police resources to sort out.
Cash and drugs were seized, and several foreign nationals were arrested.
“We had a number of people deported from Canada at the end of it,” Marsden summed up.
Most commonly reported violent crime cases were assaults, threats and harassment.
There were more than 200 assaults during the period covered by the report, 99 in the city and 142 in the Township.
Uttering threats was the second most commonly reported violent crime with 126 cases, 84 in in the Township, while criminal harassment was third with 99 cases, 80 in the Township.

In both the City and Township, the most common property crime was theft from vehicles, with 925 reported, 246 in the City and 679 in the Township, almost all of it under $5,000 and a lot of that catalytic converter theft.
False alarms and disturbance files are an “ongoing issue” in 91ԭ City and 91ԭ Township, the report noted.
Incident maps included with the report showed much of the criminal activity follows 200th Street through the 91ԭs.
“Things concentrate around 91ԭ City and then pretty much move northward from there [along] the 200 corridor,”Marsden explained.
91ԭ RCMP investigated six fatal vehicle crashes between March 1 and May 31st, and reported 57 impaired drivers and 508 speeding offences during the same period.
