VIDEO: David Eby visits 91Ô´´ in day two of election

Says NDP housing policies are working, warns Conservatives will do away with them

On day two of the provincial election, NDP leader David Eby arrived at the corner of 198 St. and 53 Ave. in 91Ô´´ City on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22 in his campaign bus.

It was billed as a "housing announcement."

Eby appeared with the three local 91Ô´´ area NDP candidates, Andrew Mercier, Megan Dykeman and John Aldag, with City Mayor Nathan Pachal, to stand in front of a housing project and warn the rival Conservatives would do away with affordable housing measures brought in by the New Democrats, policies he said are having an impact.

"We're deploying some remarkable innovations in housing, things that haven't been done for a generation, or haven't been done at all before " Eby said.

Eby pointed to a drop in rents as evidence of the success of NDP measures, and warned Conservative leader John Rustad would eliminate them all.

Afterwards, Pachal told the 91Ô´´ Advance Times NDP housing policies "generally align" with the City.

The writ for the 43rd provincial general election was issued Saturday, Sept. 21.

Under redistribution, 91Ô´´ has gone from two seats in the 2020 election to three with the creation of 91Ô´´-Willowbrook, 91Ô´´-Walnut Grove and 91Ô´´-Abbotsford.

Despite being held by the BC Liberals for decades, NDP won both seats in the previous election.

This time out, incumbent MLAs  Andrew Mercier (running in 91Ô´´-Willowbrook) and Megan Dykeman (91Ô´´-Walnut Grove) and former Liberal MP John Aldag (91Ô´´-Abbotsford) are running for the New Democrats.

Conservatives are hoping to regain the ridings, with Jody Toor (91Ô´´-Willowbrook), Harman Bhangu (91Ô´´-Abbotsford),  and 91Ô´´ Township Coun. Misty vanPopta (91Ô´´-Walnut Grove) running.

Karen Long, the BC United's candidate for 91Ô´´-Abbotsford, announced she will be running as an independent, after the party folded.

Advance voting will take place Oct. 10-13, and 15-16, with election day on Oct. 19.
