91原创 school trustees are considering new rules that would restrict the number of times anyone can raise an issue during the public question period at the end of school board meetings.
Under the proposed change to the board by-laws, no person or group would be allowed to raise the same issue more than once every three months.
This is the exact wording of the proposed regulation: 鈥淭he same topic cannot be addressed by the same individual or group within a three month timeframe. The decision to restrict a delegation within that three month timeframe is made by the secretary-treasurer.鈥
The new rules would also require questioners to be 鈥渞espectful in their presentation鈥 and forbids them from referring to 鈥減ersonnel matters or matters under grievance.鈥
Initial reaction was not favourable.
The 91原创 Teachers Association expressed concern that the 鈥渟ame topic鈥 rule would prevent it from raising questions about the district budget while the District Parent Advisory Council was concerned it was too vague.
The move to limit questions comes less than four months after trustees voted to restore the oral question period at the end of the each meeting rather than requiring written questions.
