Rail crossings at Fraser Highway and Production Way, and 200 Street and Logan Avenue, were affected, causing what police described as "significant" traffic disruptions in the area of 200 Street and Fraser Highway
Drivers told the 91Ô´´ Advance Times the train came to a halt, blocking at-grade rail crossings, around 8:45 a.m.
RCMP Staff Sergeant Kris Clark said the disruption would continue for at least the next couple hours until the mechanical issues could be resolved.
"Motorists are asked to have patience, avoid the area if possible, and find an alternate route," Clark said.
TransLink was re-routing buses.
