One person has been killed and another has been taken to hospital after a serious crash in Surrey along Highway 10.
Traffic in the Newton area of Surrey is being impacted due to what police described as a serious injury crash.
Surrey Police and fire crews are on scene of a serious crash which occurred at about 7a.m. on Thursday (March 6) on 144 Street and 56 Avenue. Details are scarce currently but traffic is being impacted due to the crash.
A large truck and a sedan were involved in the crash, according to a reporter on scene. The truck was flipped over and a tarp could be seen over the front window of the sedan involved. Witnesses on scene described the car as being crushed.
The sedan had two occupants in the car, said Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton.
Police on scene confirmed that one person is dead despite life-saving measures by Surrey Fire and BCEHS, while the driver of the truck, in "serious" condition has been taken to hospital.
The area of Highway 10 and 148 Street was snarled up to King George Boulevard, police stated. Drivers were being encouraged to find alternate routes, but as of 8:20 a.m., traffic eastbound was clear while westbound on Highway 10 and 148 Street is closed and 144 Street is closed southbound at 57 Avenue.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, police state, while they appeal to the public for witnesses.
