Despite the City of 91原创 leaving , the Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) will continue to service the Township for the next five years.
On Oct. 2, the Order of Council in the BC legislature approved the Township鈥檚 five-year tourism strategic plan and DMO renewal application. The previous agreement would have expired Nov. 1.
Tourism 91原创 has been the DMO for the Township since 2008, providing marketing for the municipality and its attractions to both visitors and local residents.
In B.C., funding for tourism marketing, programs, and projects comes from the Municipal Regional District Tax Program (MRDT), which is administered by the Ministry of Finance and uses levies collected from local accommodation businesses to promote tourism.
鈥淭his is great news for the Township of 91原创, its hotels, businesses, and attractions, and for the many people who visit us every year,鈥 said Mayor Jack Froese.
鈥91原创 Township is home to six vibrant communities that provide incredible opportunities for shopping, dining, recreation, and entertainment, and beautiful countryside full of wineries, golf courses, equestrian centres, and unique agri-tourism destinations. Our community has so much to offer and we are pleased this new agreement will allow Tourism 91原创 to continue operating as our Destination Marketing Organization.鈥
In 2016, more than 5.5 million people from around the world visited B.C. Tourism brings in over $7 billion dollars to the province each year.
鈥淭here is always something unique to discover here,鈥 said Val Gafka, the Township鈥檚 senior manager of corporate administration. 鈥淲e are pleased to be moving forward with Tourism 91原创, our hoteliers, and tourism stakeholders to let the world know what our 120,000 residents already know 鈥 that the Township has something for everyone.鈥
