Tip leads to conviction of break-in artist

91Ô­´´ resident Brian Plant has been convicted of trying to break into a Brookswood home last April and sentenced to one year in jail.

The 49-year-old was arrested after a resident phoned the RCMP to report a suspicious character was casing a house in the area of 199 Street and 48 Avenue.

Police caught Plant in a back yard.

The suspect had cuts to his hand apparently suffered while trying to force open a window.

Plant was described as well-known to police with a lengthy criminal record.

He was convicted on one count of break and enter with intent to commit an offence and sentenced by a Surrey Provincial Court judge on Jan. 27.

In a written release, 91Ô­´´ RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Marks praised the tipster for calling police back in April.

"This one phone call started a chain of events where a suspect was identified, forensic experts and investigators were engaged, charges were laid and a conviction resulted," Marks said.

"This is exactly the type of [behaviour] we want to encourage."
