It appears 91原创鈥檚 latest murder victim was shot multiple times while trying to rip off a marijuana grow up in rural Aldergrove on Friday night, said the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
No arrests have been made so far for the murder but several people have been arrested for the cultivation of the grow operation, said IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Pound.
Surrey resident Korey Kelly, 25, who has an extensive criminal record, died on the way to hospital.
It was around 9:30 p.m., when police en route to a shooting were flagged down by two of the victim鈥檚 associates in the area of 16 Avenue and 272 Street. They led officers to the victim who was in the back seat of a car bleeding and unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. It鈥檚 believed Kelly鈥檚 associates were trying to drive the victim away from the crime scene, when the driver pulled over when he saw a police car approaching.
The victim鈥檚 associates, believed to have been with Kelly in the botched grow rip, were interviewed this weekend as were many other persons of interest, said Pound.
IHIT is currently interviewing many persons of interest for both the grow rip and the homicide, she said.
鈥淚nvestigators are attempting to piece together the details leading up to this shooting,鈥 said Pound.
Police are still trying to locate the owner of the grow op home, which is located near 8 Avenue and 272 Street. It doesn鈥檛 appear anyone else was injured or shot at the crime scene.
Police believe the shooting is connected to drugs and crime, but it isn鈥檛 known if there are gang connections, said Pound.
Kelly鈥檚 criminal record includes many charges and convictions for production and possession of a controlled substance, firearm charges, driving while prohibited, breaching conditions among other crimes. He last appeared in court on Jan. 11 in Surrey Provincial Court.
According to court documents, he also went by the alias Robin Mulholland and Korey Wilson.
