What started as a call about a possible impaired driver in 91原创, resulted in quite the police incident that ended in an arrest hours later鈥 thanks to the tracking of a police dog Sunday afternoon.
Around 11 a.m., calls came in that there was a drunk driver on the road south of the Nicomekl floodplain of 91原创 City. An officer in the area located the vehicle and attempted to to pull over the driver.
鈥淭he driver refused to listen to the officer and reversed, fleeing the scene and hitting a couple cars while getting away,鈥 said police spokesperson Const. Craig Van Herk. 鈥淥ur member recognized the guy from previous dealings with him.鈥
Police did not pursue the vehicle, he said.
In the meantime, the vehicle was dumped in Surrey and another one was stolen in the same area.
鈥淧olice are working to see how that all fits in to this file,鈥 Van Herk said.
Later that evening, the investigation lead police to a residence in the area of 201 Street and 50 Avenue where the suspect was believed to be.
鈥淎s we are approaching the residence, the suspect flees on foot. But we came prepared with the police dog unit,鈥 he said.
The police dog was able to pick up the suspect鈥檚 track and found him hiding in a marshy area near the home.
鈥淭he suspect was taken to 91原创 Memorial to be treated for dog bites and then brought to cells,鈥 Van Herk said.
He is likely facing dangerous driving and flight from police charges. His age wasn鈥檛 immediately known but he is believed to be from 91原创.
In the meantime, a woman was also tracked by the police. She was not injured but was arrested. Police still haven鈥檛 fully determined if she was in the vehicle at the time.
