Surrey men charged with 91原创 wire theft

Caught towing cable down street

Two men from Surrey were arrested after some 91原创 residents spotted a wire theft in progress early Wednesday morning (June 1).

The first call came when someone phoned police after spotting some apparently cut wire near 200 Street and 32 Avenue.

While police were en route, another person called called to report seeing  an older model pickup truck dragging cable down the road.

Officers found the truck with two men inside and about 50 feet of cable lying next to the truck with rope attached to the end.

More cable was coiled in the box of the truck.

The men, aged 37 and 47, are both from Surrey.

They face charges of theft over $5000 and mischief over $5000.

The younger man faces additional counts of breaching his curfew and possession of wire cutting tools.

91原创 RCMP issued a statement thanking the two witnesses for calling police.

鈥淲e very much appreciate the role these people played in the apprehension of these individuals and it is only through the assistance of the community that we will have an impact on this type of crime鈥 said Cpl. Holly Marks.
