Cecelia Reekie announced she will seek re-election as a 91原创 school trustee this November.

鈥淚 am honoured to have been chosen by 91原创 Township residents to represent them in the by-election that was held earlier this year," Reekie said in a written statement released Tuesday (Oct. 4).

"I would love to have the opportunity to serve a full three-year term to continue to press the issues that are so important to the future of our children and families."

Reekie, an Aldergrove resident, is the first person of aboriginal heritage to be elected to the 91原创 Board of Education.

She said the growing diversity of students in 91原创 requires a strong commitment to respect and value of the culture and background of each student.

鈥淚 believe that if individuals and our community work together in a respectful and cooperative way we will be able to make a difference for our children,鈥 Reekie said.

Reekie was President of the Forget Me Not Family Society, an adoption reunion organization that supported individuals and families through the reunion process.  She is also past president of the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society.
