Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash involving a dump truck and an SUV at 80 Avenue and 122A Street in Newton early Thursday morning.

The Dec. 21 crash happened at 6:36 a.m., Surrey RCMP Const. Parmbir Kahlon said. 鈥淒espite lifesaving efforts, one person was declared deceased at the scene.鈥�

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is helping the Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) with the investigation.

鈥淭he investigation is in the early stages and investigators are working to identify all factors that led to this fatality,鈥� Kahlon said. 鈥淭raffic in the area will be affected for an undetermined amount of time as investigators process the scene. Currently, 80 Avenue is closed to westbound traffic from 124 Street to 120A Street.鈥�
