A local boater was pleased to see grey whales and orcas while boating just off Crescent Beach on Saturday afternoon (May 11).

鈥淲hat a fabulous display on Mother鈥檚 Day weekend!鈥 Leslie Achtymichuk, who captured some photos of the visiting mammals, said.

鈥淲e saw two massive grey whales right by the shore.鈥

Grey whales swim north along Canada鈥檚 west coast each spring as they head toward the Bering Sea after wintering and calving off the coast of Baja California and Mexico.

The orcas were a little further out, but Achtymichuk was concerned by the actions of some boaters. While many slowed down to see why other boats were slowing down, other boats were just 鈥渂lowing right through,鈥 and seemed to be oblivious to the nearby wildlife, the Semiahmoo Peninsula resident noted.

鈥淚 just wanted to spread the word to alert boaters鈥 to please slow down and keep your eyes out for these amazing creatures.鈥
