This year, the Aldergrove Fair committee doesn鈥檛 want to get people鈥檚 hopes up for a big fireworks show.

Last year, the annual summer celebration had planned for a good-sized fireworks display, in part , a longtime pyrotechnician who had passed away in May, 2022.

But it was not to be.

鈥淔ireworks were banned throughout British Columbia by the Provincial Fire Authority on the Friday that the Aldergrove Fair opened last year,鈥� said Robin McIntosh, the fair鈥檚 president. 鈥淥bviously it was unlucky timing and a huge disappointment for us and our entire community, but it was in everybody鈥檚 best interests.鈥�

With dry weather already here, and the long-range forecast predicting another hot spell through much of early July, McIntosh and the committee decided not to cross their fingers and try to put together another fireworks display this year.

Instead, they鈥檙e just concentrating on the other activities at the fair, and McIntosh emphasized that there is plenty going on.

鈥淵es we鈥檒l miss fireworks, but there鈥檚 lots of other things to do all day long,鈥� he said.

To beat the heat, there will be a big shade tent covering hundreds of square feet.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a great place to bring your family, meet your friends and enjoy some great music, food and beverages of choice. There will be lots of games and roaming entertainment for the kids as well,鈥� said McIntosh.
