Surrey RCMP issued a statement Sunday evening confirming shots were fired in a residential area of Clayton Heights the day before, and revealed 鈥渨eapons, explosives and precursors to drug production鈥� were found at the scene.
Police tape is up around a house on 196 Street near 68A Avenue, after neighbours said police swarmed the area Saturday night following a report of gunfire within a house in the normally quiet neighbourhood.
鈥漇urrey RCMP is investigating a delayed report of damage to a residence caused by gunfire in the Clayton area of Surrey,鈥� the release states.
鈥淥n Aug. 5, Surrey RCMP received a report of damage to a home in the 6800-block of 196 Street that had occurred the previous day and was consistent with gun shots. At scene, police observed three residences had been struck by bullets. Thankfully no one was injured in the incident.
鈥淪urrey RCMP General Investigations Unit (GIU) is leading this investigation. While analyzing the scene police located weapons, explosives, and precursors to drug production. GIU is working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP Drug Unit and the BC RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU). Preliminary examination by investigators has determined the scene is not a risk to the public and police will be taking every precaution to ensure public safety.
Investigators will remain on scene until the area is made safe, said Cpl. Scotty Schumann.
鈥淎 careful and methodical examination of the buildings is required. Officers will be canvassing the neighbourhood in the hopes of locating potential witnesses. At this time no suspects have been identified.鈥�
