An Aldergrove resident says 91原创 RCMP ignored her family鈥檚 complaints about Internet harassment until someone hacked their home phone and called the Mounties to report a nonexistent multiple murder and hostage-taking.
Around 12:30 Monday afternoon (July 25), Louise (who did not give her last name) says she heard a strange noise and stepped outside to discover her home was surrounded by heavily-armed police who yelled at her to put her hands up while they pointed guns at her.
A phone call had come in around 11:30 a.m. from a male caller who claimed he鈥檇 killed several people and was holding others hostage at the house in the 27100 block of 16 Avenue in Aldergrove.
Members of the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (ERT) moved in with police dog services. Paramedics were on standby.
After Louise stepped outside, her two teenage children followed. At first, police wanted to charge the teens with public mischief but reconsidered after the family told them about the Internet harassment.
鈥淥ne and a half years ago we called police to our home because our computer, cell and home phones were all being hacked,鈥 Louise said in an e-mail to The Times.
鈥淥ur computer was wiped clean three times [even though we] had virus protection and changed passwords often,鈥 she added.
The hacker constantly harassed her son, 鈥渆ven sending lewd e-mails and bribes to teachers [and posting] our phone numbers, address and names on various porn sites.鈥
Louise said when the principal at her son鈥檚 school phoned police they were told they could do nothing.
鈥淲e called police out three times and they said 鈥榡ust stay off the computer, there鈥檚 nothing we can do for you鈥 even though this person was invading our lives every day,鈥 Louise said.
The family even tried to hire someone to find out who was responsible, but were unable to.
鈥淣ow the same individual called in a fake murder at our address,鈥 Louise said. 鈥淣ow the police take it seriously because their time was wasted.鈥
The family computer has been turned over to the RCMP Tech Crimes Unit.
