A 65-year-old from Mission was targeted last week in a Bitcoin scam.

According to a Mission RCMP news release, the local senior was informed by fraudsters that his Amazon account had been breached.

After telling them he didn't have an Amazon account, he was transferred to an 鈥淥ttawa deputy Crown attorney鈥.  The Mission man was then asked to purchase a "large amount" of Bitcoin from  a specific Bitcoin ATM.

He was also instructed to send the attorney the QR code from the Bitcoin purchase.

鈥淎s always, be aware that any sort of call demanding payment in the form of gift cards or cryptocurrency is a scam,鈥 Mission RCMP said.

Those unsure about the legitimacy of a call, email, or letter are urged to speak with Mission RCMP to determine whether or not it is a scam.
