A Mission man has been found guilty of sexual assault in relation to a 2022 incident on a North Vancouver trail.
Jairus-Paul Covacha Sacramento was found guilty on June 9 after a North Vancouver Provincial Court trial. The Mission resident will be sentenced at a later date, according to a news release from North Vancouver RCMP.
鈥淭his was a traumatizing incident for the victim and impacted the community鈥檚 sense of safety,鈥 said North Vancouver RCMP media relations officer Cst. Mansoor Sahak. 鈥淲e are grateful to the public for helping bring this case to a resolution, and reaffirm our commitment to keep this community safe from those who seek to victimize others.鈥
The sexual assault occurred on a Lynn Valley trail on Feb. 13th, 2022. According to police at the time, a woman was walking on the trail and crossing the foot bridge to Rice Lake Road when a six-foot-tall man groped her buttocks from behind.
A tip from a member of the public led to the arrest of Sacramento at a worksite in the South Poplar neighbourhood of Abbotsford after a March 12, 2022 press release.
Police released an image of the suspect to the public on March 10, asking for help to identify the suspect.
