A Mission man has been found guilty of sexual assault in relation to a 2022 incident on a North Vancouver trail.
Jairus-Paul Covacha Sacramento was found guilty on June 9 after a North Vancouver Provincial Court trial. The Mission resident will be sentenced at a later date, according to a news release from North Vancouver RCMP.
鈥淭his was a traumatizing incident for the victim and impacted the community鈥檚 sense of safety,鈥� said North Vancouver RCMP media relations officer Cst. Mansoor Sahak. 鈥淲e are grateful to the public for helping bring this case to a resolution, and reaffirm our commitment to keep this community safe from those who seek to victimize others.鈥�
The sexual assault occurred on a Lynn Valley trail on Feb. 13th, 2022. According to police at the time, a woman was walking on the trail and crossing the foot bridge to Rice Lake Road when a six-foot-tall man groped her buttocks from behind.
A tip from a member of the public led to the arrest of Sacramento at a worksite in the South Poplar neighbourhood of Abbotsford after a March 12, 2022 press release.
Police released an image of the suspect to the public on March 10, asking for help to identify the suspect.
