Two people were injured and a dog named Simba went missing and was later found after a terrible house fire in Ryder Lake Wednesday.
Chilliwack Fire Department was called to a house fire in the 5000 block of Sherlaw Road on Nov. 13 just after 3 p.m.
When crews arrived on scene, it was a 鈥渇ully involved鈥 structure fire.
Thanks to firefighters the damage was contained to the building and a single vehicle.
While en route, crews spotted a column of smoke rising.
"That, along with caller information, prompted an immediate upgrade to a second alarm," reported assistant fire chief Krista Minar in release.
Firefighters from Halls 1, 2, 4, 5, attended and upon arrival found smoke and flames coming from a single-family residence.
"Both occupants had evacuated but had sustained injuries."
"Firefighters quickly established a water supply and began aggressively attacking the fire to minimize structural damage. BCEHS provided care for the occupants, who were later transported to the hospital."
Victim services were available on scene, and Emergency Support Services was called in to provide further assistance. The RCMP were also on scene to provide support.
No injuries to firefighters were reported.
"Both family pets made it out of the home; one has been accounted for, while the other is still loose in the area."
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
