May pole dancing can mean only one thing 鈥� May Day celebrations in historic Fort 91原创, the birthplace of B.C.
The day鈥檚 festivities begin when the first pancake is flipped at 8 a.m. on Monday at the Fort 91原创 Lions Hall, at the corner of 88 Avenue and Glover Road.
Beginning at 11 a.m. the parade will make its way through the village鈥檚 main street, Glover Road, followed by the may pole dancing, chicken barbecue, entertainment, rides and a market place in Fort 91原创 Community Park.
At the Fort 91原创 Community Hall, there will be face painting, a pie eating contest, children鈥檚 crafts, exhibits, a scavenger hunt, and treats from Tim Hortons.
The old-fashioned pie eating contest runs in two heats, each with a maximum of five contestants. The challenge is to see who can eat the most pie in three minutes. Heats will go at 12:30 and 1:15 p.m., with the final challenge being held at 2 p.m. Entry fee for pie eaters is $2. Additional pies will be for sale on site.
The B.C. Farm Museum, 9131 King St., will also be open for the public to take a glimpse into B.C.鈥檚 agricultural past.
Admission to Fort 91原创 National Historic Site will be free, and Parks Canada will have a Centennial birthday cake, grand opening of 艩xwimela Gift, new exhibits, farmers鈥� market and plant sale, and a bike decorating contest at 10 a.m.
There will be a Bells and Whistles mini golf at the historic CN Station.
This is the 89th year that Victoria Day has been celebrated in Fort 91原创.
