The Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue team assisted with getting a scalded hiker to safety over the long weekend.
On Sunday, Aug. 4, just before 8 p.m. RMSAR was tasked for a medical rescue on the Golden Ears Mountains. A hiker was prepared to spend the night with a group of friends at the Panorama Ridge campground, which is close to the summit. Many hikers make the Golden Ears a two day hike, with a night at Panorama Ridge.
However, this hiker was severely burned by boiling water after their pot and stove tipped over next to them.
After some time spent attempting to manage the injury themselves, the group decided to call for help, with doubts about whether the burn victim would be able to make the long hike out of the wilderness with burns to the victim's foot and leg. The second degree burns were also causing the scalded hiker considerable pain.
With assistance from Talon Helicopters, a rescue team was flown in, and made a hasty evacuation with only minutes left of daylight flying time.
