A massive fire broke out on a coal stacker at the Delta port on Saturday (Dec. 28) morning.
Delta Fire & Emergency Services responded to a fire at Roberts Bank 1 WestShore Terminal at 8:30 a.m.
In a post to stated the fire was "limited to a conveyor belt," and fire crews extinguished it. The fire is not considered suspicious and crews remain on the scene to monitor the site. No injuries were reported.
A Vancouver Fraser Port Authority spokesperson told the Surrey Now-Leader that the Westshore Terminal and the neighbouring GCT Deltaport, which was not impacted by the fire, temporarily shut down.
Plumes of black smoke from the fire could be seen Saturday morning from neighbouring Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.
Westshore as the "busiest coal export terminal" in Canada.
