Jan Lindsay of the Lindsay Kenney law firm will become the The Law Society of British Columbia鈥檚 second vice-president in 2012, a position that will see the 91原创 resident go on to become head of the organization that represents all accredited B.C. lawyers in 2014.

The society, which regulates the professional conduct of more than 10,000 lawyers, has a leadership training system informally known as 鈥渢he ladder鈥� in which a person becomes a second v-p for a year, then a first v-p before they automatically rise to become president.

It鈥檚 designed to give newcomers time to learn the ropes.

Not that Lindsay needs much help finding her way around the hallways of the society.

She was named to the Executive Committee of the Law Society in 2010, sat on the Complainants Review Committee from 2000 to 2003 and the Discipline Committee in 2005, among other committee roles.

In 2006, successful in a by-election, she became one of three Benchers (senior members of the Law Society) representing Westminster County.

In her capacity as a Bencher, Lindsay presents ethics courses for the Canadian Bar Association, and from time to time is asked to address first year law students on professional ethics and character.

Lindsay, who specializes in personal injury cases and works out of the Lindsay Kenney 91原创 office, won the Canadian Defence Lawyers鈥� Lee Samis Award of Excellence for 2011.

She will be the fifth woman president and the first who is a mother, a Society announcement said.

Her online biography notes that Lindsay managed to balance a full-time law practice with raising four children 鈥� attending 鈥渢oo many hockey and soccer games to count鈥� 鈥� while also volunteering in a range of community initiatives such as the 91原创 Children鈥檚 Society.
