A 91原创 man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with one driven by his wife on the Sea to Sky Highway at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 5.
The crash happened when the 57-year-old man tried to pass a vehicle to join his wife ahead of him. RCMP report that at the same time, she slowed down and the two machines collided. The crash occurred in the northbound lanes at Porteau Cove.
His wife was seriously injured.
The fatal crash was one of three last week involving motorcycles and an ATV.
A 44-year-old Chilliwack man died after he sustained severe head injuries in a motorcycle collision on Aug. 5. He was traveling in a group motorcyclists when he lost control and was unable to stop when traffic slowed. The crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 at McCallum Road in Abbotsford.
The man slid down the roadway but did not hit any other vehicles.
RCMP are alarmed that the man was wearing improper headgear. When they examined the helmet, they found these words written inside: 鈥楾his novelty helmet is not a safety helmet and does not meet standards. It is not designed for use when riding any street or off road motorized vehicle.鈥
鈥淭here is little forgiveness or room for error when you are riding a motorcycle,鈥 said Sgt. Peter Thiessen, Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service media relations officer.
鈥淚t is vital that cyclists are alert to what is going on around them and that they wear approved helmets. These are both simple things that can save lives,鈥 he said.
At 4:30 p.m. on same day, a 20-year-old man was riding an ATV on West Harrison forest service road north of Harrison Hot Springs when he failed to negotiate a turn, ran off the road and slid down an embankment. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
鈥淲e encourage people who use all terrain vehicles to take available courses from a reputable instructor,鈥 Thiessen said.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 know if this particular young man had taken any courses but it can only help make you a safer on these vehicles.鈥
Police have not yet released the name of the dead men.
