鈥淭raditionally, Canada Day long weekend is one of our busiest search and rescue periods,鈥 said navy Lt. Melissa Kia. 鈥淗igher volumes in our parks mean higher caseloads usually.鈥
The higher volume is down to the good weather, she added.
鈥淲e notice that we did do quite a high amount of medevac requests,鈥 said Kia. 鈥淯sually that鈥檚 in response to small injuries and people calling in saying that they鈥檙e stuck in an area.鈥
Most of those cases are for hikers, Kia said. Medevacs aren鈥檛 just by air, she noted: the JRCC categorizes any situation where a person needs to be taken in for medical care as a medevac.
This weekend鈥檚 calls included in Pitt Meadows, and in central Vancouver Island.
