Police arrived at the scene within minutes of the 911 call reporting the attack, but the suspect 鈥 described as a Black male, 5鈥11鈥, wearing a hat and a grey hoodie 鈥 was not located. He was last seeing fleeing northbound from the promenade towards Marine Drive.

In a statement issued late Wednesday afternoon (April 24), White Rock RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Dixon said police patrols have been increased in the waterfront area in response to two recent stabbings: Tuesday鈥檚 killing, as well as the attack Sunday night (April 21) on another waterfront visitor. The suspect鈥檚 description in both incidents is similar.

鈥淭his level of violence is not something we are accustomed to seeing in White Rock, however, we have experienced investigators who have been and continue to work diligently to find the person or persons responsible,鈥 Dixon states.

鈥淯nderstandably, the incidents have raised concerns surrounding safety in our community. I share those concerns. These acts of violence are the top priority for me and the detachment.鈥

Dixon adds that White Rock RCMP is being supported by specialized policing resources from the Lower Mainland District, Surrey RCMP, Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, Integrated Forensic Identification Services and Integrated Police Dog Service.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken conduct of the homicide investigation.
