Chilliwack firefighters were able to revive a dog during a house fire early Sunday morning.

The fire destroyed a home in the 9200 block of Carleton Street just after midnight, and two cats died. But crews were able to revive one dog by performing CPR for several minutes and providing oxygen. Another cat and dog also survived the fire. No people were hurt in the fire.

There were 25 firefighters called out to the fire, according to a press release from the Chilliwack Fire Department.

The single-family home was heavily involved in flames, and those spread to nearby vehicles and up into the roof area of an adjacent duplex.

The fire department says crews were challenged by 鈥渁 large volume of fire, live electrical lines on the ground and nearby structures and vehicles.鈥

In the end, one half of the duplex received light smoke damage, while the other half suffered heavy smoke and water damage, along with fire damage to the roof and attic areas. The single-family home did suffer heavy fire, water and smoke damage.

The Chilliwack Emergency Support Services (ESS) team was dispatched to the scene and provided emergency food, clothing and shelter to displaced occupants. This fire is under investigation by fire officials.
