91原创 RCMP were on scene Monday morning at the scene of a fire that gutted a home under construction in South Aldergrove on Sunday, Jan. 15.
The owner, who asked not to be named, said his family was about a month away from moving into the 5800 square foot, eight-bedroom home, on 272nd Street near 16th Avenue.
鈥淲e were excited,鈥 he recalled.
鈥淭he kitchen cabinet guy was coming this week.鈥
He described it as his family鈥檚 dream house, representing more than 22 years of saving up and planning, costing more than $1 million to build.
He told the 91原创 Advance Times he took out insurance on the house at the suggestion of the builder despite the doubts of some family members who questioned the expense.
鈥淚 was lucky,鈥 he remarked.
The fire was reported at about 6:43 p.m., and prompted a response including six water tenders from the 91原创 Township Fire Department.
鈥淚t was a stubborn fire,鈥 said fire chief Russ Jenkins.
The fire was extinguished by around midnight, when the bulk of the crews went home, leaving some RCMP officers and a few crew members to watch over the site until morning.
鈥淚t鈥檚 under investigation right now,鈥 Jenkins said.
91原创 RCMP said the fire was not considered suspicious at this time.
