A five-vehicle collision on the Pattullo Bridge on Sunday morning (Jan. 26) has claimed the life of one driver, Surrey Police Service reports.
The collision happened just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday and involved five vehicles, including a bus.
Surrey Fire Service and BC Emergency Health Service personnel administered lifesaving measures to one female driver, who died on the scene.
Other drivers and passengers were also injured, but at this stage the extent of those injuries is unknown, the release says.
"Both the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operational Support Unit Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) have been called in to assist," the release from SPS Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton says. "The investigation is in its early stages and the cause of the collision is unknown."
The Pattullo Bridge is closed to traffic as police investigate. Road closures and traffic diversions are expected to last through the day.
