Firefighters tackled a fire on the roof of the Land's End building at the Swartz Bay ferry terminal on Jan. 24.

Emergency services were called to a major Vancouver Island BC Ferries' terminal when a fire broke out in the main building.

Firefighters tackled a fire on the roof of the Land's End building at the Swartz Bay terminal, which is home to the terminal's restaurant and coffee bar, on the afternoon of Friday (Jan. 24).

"The fire department was called and the building was evacuated," a BC Ferries spokesperson told Peninsula News Review. "The fire was contained and no injuries were reported."

The Land's End building and cafe are now closed until further notice, said the spokesperson.

There were no impacts to sailing operations. Located north of Victoria, Swartz Bay is main link between southern Vancouver Island and B.C.'s Lower Mainland.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and keep customers informed if anything changes," said BC Ferries. "We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers as our staff and emergency services managed this situation."
