Surrey RCMP says impairment by drugs is believed to be a contributing factor in a fatal collision that over the weekend.
On Saturday (Oct. 5), at approximately 4:30 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a fatal motor vehicle collision near 144 Street and Hyland Road. A Ford F350 was travelling northbound on 144 Street when it crossed into oncoming traffic.
The vehicle then collided with a bus stop bench, injuring two pedestrians and causing damage to the surrounding property, an RCMP release said.
A 33-year-old male pedestrian was declared dead at the scene; a second male pedestrian was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
The driver, a 44-year-old man, was arrested on scene for dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death and impaired operation of a conveyance causing death.
鈥淭he driver was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and was released from police custody pending further investigation,鈥 said Surrey RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Tammy Lobb.
鈥淭he Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) took conduct of this investigation, and impairment by drugs is believed to be a contributing factor in this fatal collision," she added.
