A house went up in flames during an early-morning fire in Chilliwack on Friday.
The blaze happened around 3:15 a.m. on April 11 in the 8900 block of Nowell Street, at the corner of Fifth Avenue.
When crews with the Chilliwack Fire Department arrived on scene, they reported the two-storey home was completely engulfed in flames.
"Crews quickly established a defensive attack on the fire, utilizing several large and small diameter hose streams to contain the fire," said assistant fire chief Chris Wilson in a press release later that same morning. "Fire crews were able to prevent the spread of the fire to nearby structures, despite being challenged by intense heat and a large volume of fire."
The home was completely destroyed as a result of the blaze, and after the fire was extinguished, crews demolished the building due to concerns with the structural stability of the building, Wilson added.
According to a neighbour, the house was for sale and the renters moved out recently.
Approximately 35 firefighters from Halls 1, 2, 4 and 6 responded to the fire. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported, and the fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department officials.
