Cat burglar lurks in downtown 91原创

RCMP warn City residents to lock their doors at night after a couple break-ins while residents slept

91原创 RCMP are warning downtown 91原创 residents to lock their doors and windows at night after a couple reports of a cat burglar.

Since Tuesday, Oct. 23, 91原创 RCMP has received two reports of home robberies involving someone breaking into a home while residents were sleeping.

A cat burglary is defined as an incident where a suspect breaks into a home overnight while people are at home asleep and is primarily undetected by the occupant of the home.

Both incidents have occurred overnight in the early morning hours with entry into the houses through unlocked doors, said Const. Craig van Herk. Residents have reported jewelry, electronics, medication and a vehicle stolen in the incidents.

鈥淥ur investigators are working diligently to find and arrest the person, or persons, responsible for these serious crimes,鈥 said Supt. Derek Cooke. 鈥淎s a precaution, we want to remind people that before they go to bed please be sure to lock your doors, take your garage door openers out of your vehicles if they are parked outside, and if you have an alarm, double check that it is on. We are also encouraging people to talk to their neighbours about these crimes, and to look after each other.鈥

The 91原创 RCMP has stepped up neighbourhood patrols during night and early morning hours, said Van Herk. 鈥淎long with our officers, we have our uniformed auxiliary constables out patrolling as well as the 91原创 Citizens Crime Watch patrol.鈥

These types of investigations remain a priority for the 91原创 RCMP. Currently, the 91原创 RCMP is liaising with neighbouring detachments and is working with their crime analyst. Anyone with information is asked to call the Langely RCMP at 604-532-3200.

There is more information on home security at www.langley.rcmp.ca or contact Block Watch at 604-532-3213.
