A by-election has been called for the Cloverdale鈥91原创 City federal riding.
It was announced on Sunday, Nov. 10 by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office, on the same day the Liberal party selected Madison Fleischer as a "Team Trudeau" candidate at a Surrey nomination meeting.
Fleischer, who operates a public relations firm in 91原创, attended Trinity Western University. She was named one of Surrey鈥檚 Top 25 Under 25 for her project, Slava Sweatshirts, that helped provide financial assistance to Ukrainians during the ongoing conflict.

Federal Conservatives have already selected Tamara Jansen, who won the CPC nomination at an Oct. 21 riding contest.
The federal seat has been empty since Aldag resigned to run for the B.C. NDP in the provincial 91原创-Abbotsford riding just under six months ago.
He was defeated by provincial Conservative Harman Bhangu, who won by more than 5,600 votes.
Aldag represented the Liberals in the seat from 2015-19, was ousted by Jansen, then regained his seat in 2021, holding it until he stepped down.
Vanessa Sharma will represent the NDP in the byelection.
A party press release said Sharma has a 鈥渓ong track record鈥 of tackling climate change, working for better health care access, and advocating for more affordable housing.
Sharma is Equity Vice President at the Canadian Labour of Congress, and works with FortisBC where she does community engagement across the province.
鈥淸Prime Minister] Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have let people in Cloverdale 鈥 91原创 City down. They promised to make life more affordable, and they broke that promise,鈥 said Sharma.

It is the 11th byelection for a federal seat since the 2021 federal election.

Registered voters can also cast a ballot at the Elections Canada office.
To vote by mail, voters have to apply by 6 p.m. on Dec. 10, and return their ballot by mail, or in person at the Elections Canada office, before polls close on Dec. 16.
