B.C.鈥檚 police watchdog has been called in after a man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Maple Ridge.
Mounties responded to report of a domestic dispute at a home on Colemore Street around 1:10 p.m. on Sunday.
Inside, they found three people, one of whom was holding a knife.
鈥淒uring the course of the interaction a conducted energy weapon was deployed but was not successful, and another police officer fired their gun,鈥 said BC RCMP communications director Dawn Roberts.
Paramedics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead. No one else was hurt.
A resident in the area recalled hearing two 鈥渂ig鈥 bangs, then seeing at least six police vehicles and three ambulances parked along the street.
Other neighbours who came out to see what was going on said the street is normally very quiet and the people living in the house behind the police tape were renters.
One witness said they saw a woman screaming at officers outside, as well as several officers crying.
Neighbours said police have been called to the house numerous times in the past because of one individual who was mentally ill. But the family of three normally just kept to themselves.
