Some residents of an Abbotsford neighbourhood are upset that 鈥淏lack Lives Matter鈥 posters are being ripped down and defaced.
The signs have been taken down from mailboxes and community bulletin boards in the Auguston area, with the word 鈥渁ll鈥 being written over the word 鈥淏lack鈥 so that the signs say 鈥淎ll Lives Matter.鈥
That response to 鈥淏lack Lives Matter鈥 is considered offensive and hurtful to supporters of the movement, because it dismisses the issue of Black lives being disproportionately impacted by racism.

Among the common responses is: 鈥淪aying 鈥楢ll Live Matters鈥 is like going to a cancer fundraiser and saying 鈥楾here are other diseases too!鈥欌
An Auguston resident who contacted The Abbotsford News said every time the posters are replaced, they are removed and defaced.
She said the police have been contacted.
鈥淭he point is that there is racism in Abbotsford 鈥 It makes us feel unsafe in our own community. We need people to speak out,鈥 the woman said.
